We drove from Memphis to Natchez today. On the way we stopped at Vicksburg to see the National Military Park. It was the second most important battle after Gettesburg since it is on the Mississippi River. If the Union could get control of it they could use the river to transport goods. Over 3,000 died there. The is also a cemetery. Of the 17,000 civil war soldiers, 13,000 are unidentified.
We stayed in this B&B in Natchez. It was built in 1804 and has been in the same family for five generations. This town got its money from cotton. When we got to town there was a Madi Gras parade. We had Thai food for dinner which was a welcome change.
